This was the case with the ever-lasting debate on the status of Jesus as to consider him a man or the God.At this time I can look through two frames--1. Theological and 2.Political.
At first lets come onto the Theological perspective through which Jesus was not considered as a divine character, rather his disciples considered him a Man to whom the God of Jews(Yahweh) revealed the ways for salvation from sin and directed him to enlighten the mankind by truth and mercy.Peter, one of his disciples after the crucifixion of Jesus gathered people of Israel(who were Jews)and explained to them that it was their God(Yahweh) who directed Jesus as what to do.Jesus, however was only a mediator....a messenger...a Prophet .
Religious dogma of the people was unquestioned when Peter mentioned the name of their own God(Yahweh) and people accepted that without any obstruction and put-off Jesus from the blasphemy for which he was accused of . So we see here that it was all about their believes (and never forget their views) that changed their considerations.
Now we should talk about another perspective--the Political one. When it comes to dominate,to flourish and to survive, there need to be a consensus regarding the subject.A state remains healthy as long as it is politically stable. When Christianity was proclaimed and churches were established, owing to their underlying differences in the assessment of the Gospels,or might be for the sake of political domination;several controversies aroused for the status of the Jesus. As i have already mentioned in my previous blog the Council of Nicaea(formed by the Constantine) was formed and final identity of Jesus was made ready.Interestingly (as you surely will find it) it was the result of votes of the bishops and the members of the council. The need to ascertain the status of Jesus was highly demanded as quarrels were growing among people and the state was getting politically intolerable. You might wonder why would a religious bug infuse political harassment ? Think of the powers churches had in that time, and any expropriation was not tolerable !
It is clear that from theological believes to the political interests,we changed our perspective and that changed everything else. The present day Christianity could be bestowed for the change in the way people made during those times, no matter whether that was prudent or not but that was the call of the time;and was well responded...!!!
Hope you enjoy this blog ! Will come with another in my next one.
Bye for now !
